Heard from placement – not the best news

Here is the email I got today from placement.

Hello I received your voicemail message and apologize for not addressing your questions in this email. You medical clearance is valid for two years from the date of your exams. Based on the recent date of your medical clearance you should not have anything to update even if you are placed in 2012. Your dental clearance however is only good for a year. Depending on how quickly you are placed you might need to update your dental clearance.

In terms of your lease, there isn’t much advice I could provide you other than you should not anticipate being invited to a program that departs before 2012. I am hoping in the next month or so I will be able to give you a better indication of when you might be able to depart. I hope this information is somewhat helpful.

Thank you for your continued interest in the Peace Corps.

So it isn’t the news I really wanted to hear, but I am glad I have more information now. I am actually even more excited now. I could go anywhere in the world. I know that I will 90% not be going this year. That means, I can actually spend some money. I can plan a trip to New Orleans in August/September. I can be a little less restless for a while.

It is amazing how simply knowing a time frame alleviates so much stress. My placement specialist should get back to me in June or early July. Until then, I can enjoy my time at work, with my dog, with a shower, electricity, TRUE BLOOD!!!!, and of course the extra time with my friends. In all honesty, I am really excited about this. I will be a much stronger candidate with more work experience.

I am looking forward to destressing about placement for a while.

  1. I got the same thing – my placement specialist called me for my final interview, and told me for my nomination I shouldn’t expect to leave until January-March 2012. I could leave earlier if i switched to teaching, but since i want to stay with my nomination, I’m stuck waiting… 😦 At least we know we aren’t alone!

    • I have decided that I am okay with not leaving until the beginning of next year. It gives me more time with my friends and my dog. Plus, I feel like there will be even more exciting opportunities next year. That this will be some sort of hidden better path!
